Why We Are Evolving

Summary

This post explains why Gateway Navigation is evolving and how a simple website refresh led to a broader transformation of our work. It highlights our shift from advocacy to consulting, the four core service areas now shaping our approach, and our commitment to accessibility, inclusive design and lived experience. A clear overview of how we’re growing to better support organizations creating accessible, inclusive environments.

Every organization reaches a point where it needs to pause, reflect, and ask an important question: Are we communicating who we have become, or who we used to be? For Gateway Navigation, answering that question became the catalyst for far more than a website redesign—it became the beginning of a new chapter.

At a glance

  • Gateway Navigation has evolved from advocacy to consulting.
  • Our new website reflects four core service areas.
  • Lived experience remains at the heart of everything we do.

A Website Refresh Became a Business Transformation

When we set out to redesign the Gateway Navigation website, our goal seemed straightforward: create a cleaner, more accessible website that better reflected our work. As the project unfolded, however, we realized that the website wasn’t the only thing that needed updating.

Over the years, Gateway Navigation had grown through accessibility consulting, community engagement, research collaborations, assistive technology projects, and inclusive navigation initiatives. Our experience had expanded, but our website still reflected where we had started rather than where we were heading.

Building on Our Experience

Rather than simply refreshing our website, we stepped back and asked three important questions:

  • How can we better support organizations creating accessible environments?
  • How can we build a sustainable social enterprise that allows us to continue advancing accessibility and inclusion?
  • How can we communicate our expertise more clearly

From Vision to Action

The answers led us to reorganize Gateway Navigation around four complementary service areas: Accessibility Consulting, Inclusive Navigation and Wayfinding, Assistive Technology and Emerging Technology Integration, and Workshops and Training. Together, these services reflect our commitment to helping organizations move beyond compliance toward practical, inclusive solutions informed by lived experience.

Continue the Conversation

This website marks the beginning of Gateway Navigation’s next chapter. We look forward to working with municipalities, businesses, educators, researchers, and community organizations that believe accessibility should be integrated from the start. Together, we can create environments, services, and technologies that are more inclusive for everyone.
